How bold & font design helps you convince the reader

And how to make people think more critically by writing

BOLDING the word and choosing a font that is easy to read makes sentence looks more trustworthy intuitively.

Because ‘System 1’ of our mind (fast, instinctive, and emotional) will choose something that makes us feel at ease.

On the contrary, imposing certain manageable obstacles (eg, smaller font or harder / messier to read) makes people think more critically because it activates ‘System 2’ of our mind (slower, more deliberative, and more logical) when we are skeptical and feel uneasy.

Think about this next time when you are writing your sales email, if you want people to be convinced, structure it, and do not use too many / too little bold, italic, or highlights.

Or if you want your team to discuss solutions for an issue, don’t make certain suggestions easier to read than others, make everything look the same to remain objective.

The content idea was taken from the book “Thinking, Fast & Slow” by Daniel Kahneman, I am only 20% into the book and learned at least seven or more things about our psyche and behavior that countless psychologists spend time understanding.

I strongly recommend reading the book for the full experience. But if you are too busy and are interested in more psychology / behavioral-related content that I learn, please let me know in comments or DM, and I’ll write more about it + notify you.
